1 held as banned BCL again brings out flash procession in Ctg at night
This is the second consecutive night the banned organisation brought out processions in the port city
Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the banned student wing of Awami League, brought out another flash procession in Chattogram last night (18 November).
This is the second consecutive night the banned organisation brought out processions in the port city.
"Around ten members of the banned Chhatra League attempted to hold a procession in an alley of the Dampara area. They fled after chanting slogans for just two minutes," said Jahedul Kabir, the officer in charge of Chawkabazar police station.
He also said an AL leader named Mohammad Shahjahan was arrested from the area.
"The police conducted a raid in that area upon receiving information of the flash procession and arrested the president of the concerned unit of the AL," said Jahedul.
Meanwhile, a 1:04 minute-long video uploaded on social media shows 10-12 people chanting pro-AL slogans, including "Fear not Sheikh Hasina, we did not leave the arena" and "Sheikh Hasina's lead, again and again, we need."
In the later part of the video, the demonstrators are seen running away after being chased.
During the early hours on Monday, a group of 15-20 people took to the streets in Chattogram with a flash procession.
Another flash procession in support of the Awami League was brought out in Sylhet last morning.
This was the model of protests that opposition parties, including BNP, had adopted in the face of strict obstructions during the AL regime. Gather in a location, bring out a procession, quickly take photos and videos, and then disappear in adjacent alleys after immediately dispersing.
Earlier, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, said AL would not be granted permission to hold a protest programme in Dhaka.
"The Awami League in its current form is a fascist party. There is no way this fascist party will be allowed to hold protests in Bangladesh," he had said.
Amid demands from the students, the interim government, on 23 October, banned the Chhatra League in line with the Anti-Terrorism Act 2009.
