1 killed, 3 hurt in Lakshmipur gas station cylinder blast
A man was killed and three others injured in a gas cylinder blast while refuelling a bus at a station in Sadar upazila of Lakshmipur in the early hours of today (11 December).
The deceased was identified as Kalam, a labourer. The injured are Hossain Ahmed, Naim and Abul Hossain.
The incident took place at around 4am at the Green Life Filling Station when an Al Madina Paribahan bus plying on the Lakshmipur-Ramgati route stopped to get gas.
Lakshmipur Fire Service personnel reached the spot, rescued the injured and sent them to the sadar hospital.
Joynal Abedin, a doctor at the emergency department of Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, said a man was brought dead to the hospital. The three injured were sent to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital as they were in critical condition.
Earlier on 14 October, at least three people were killed and 20 injured in the same gas station.
Locals claim negligence of authorities concerned over the repeated accidents. They alleged that the accident occurred because the cylinders in the bus had expired.
Contacted, Al Amin, manager of filling station, claimed that the cylinders of the buses that exploded were still in their original condition, not expired.
