Dense fog leads to 6-vehicle pile-up on Dhaka-Mawa highway, 1 killed
Ten people have also been injured in the incident this morning
A bus driver was killed and 10 others were injured after dense fog led to collisions between six vehicles on the Singpara Underpass of the Dhaka-Mawa expressway in Munshiganj today (22 December).
The accident took place at around 7am when a Mawa-bound Sakura Paribahan bus rear-ended a covered van, resulting in collisions between three more buses and a microbus behind it, said Hasara highway police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Kader Zilani.
The three other buses belonged to Ena, Golden Line and Sheba Paribahan companies, he added.
Dr Camelia Sarkar, of the Sreenagar Upazila Health Complex emergency department, said driver Farhad Hossain, 40, of the Sakura Paribahan bus was brought in with critical injuries. "He passed away while undergoing treatment."
Farid's body remains at the health complex.
OC Zilani said the work to remove the damaged vehicles from the highway was ongoing.
Another collision between a truck and a car also took place in the Hasara area at around 3:30am but no casualties were reported, he added.
