10 Cox's Bazar fishermen abducted by Arakan Army now released
They were picked up by the members of Arakan Army while fishing at a canal named Modir Khal in the Naf River in Palongkhali union of Ukhiya on Wednesday morning
Ten Bangladeshi fishermen from Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar, who were allegedly abducted by Myanmar's separatist front Arakan Army while fishing in a canal of the Naf River, have been released today.
The fishermen are Jane Alam, 35, Abdur Rahim, 40, Anwarul Islam, 37, Saiful Islam, 30, Ayubul Islam, 30, Shahin, 20, Abdur Rahim, 52, Osman Ghani, 30, Osman, 35, and Abul Hashim, 35.
Confirming the matter, Ukhiya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Tanvir Hossain said the fishermen were released through the Ghumdhum border of Naikhongchari upazila of Bandarban at 8:30pm on Thursday (2 May).
The UNO said the incident had been immediately reported to the higher authorities of the administration, including the BGB. Since then, the BGB, along with the border officials, began their efforts to bring these fishermen back.
"After reaching the other side of the border, the BGB took custody of the fishermen. Later, they were sent back home after preliminary interrogation."
They were picked up by the members of Arakan Army while fishing at a canal named Modir Khal in the Naf River in Palongkhali union of Ukhiya on Wednesday morning, said Palongkhali union parishad chairman M Gafur Uddin Chowdhury.
He added that the fishermen said they had not been tortured in any way.
