Ctg City Corp blacklists 12 contractors for assaulting a project director
Chattogram City Corporation has blacklisted 12 contractors on allegations of their involvement in assaulting Gholam Yazdani, a project director of the corporation's development project, at his office.
Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, chief executive officer of the city corporation, on Tuesday, issued a notification in this regard.
Earlier on 29 January, a group of contractors attacked the project director (PD) at his office in the temporary head office building of the corporation in Tigarpass area as they failed to get the project work worth Tk2,500 crore.
The firms of the blacklisted contractors are, Mahmuda Builders and SJ Traders owned by Md Sahab Uddin, Bangladesh Traders by Sanjay Bhowmik, Masud Enterprise by Mohammad Ferdous, Joy Traders by Subhash Mazumder, Khan Corporation owned by Habib Ulla Khan, Nazim Uddin and Brothers by Nazim Uddin, Rakib Enterprise by Md Nazmul Hossain, Iftekhar and Brothers by Md Yusuf, Jyoti Enterprise and Deepa Enterprise by Ashish Kumar Dey, and Tanzil Enterprise by Alamgir.
Muhammad Abul Hashem, private secretary of the port city mayor, said, "It found proof that the contractors of aforesaid organisations were involved in assaulting the project director "Various Road Development and Important Infrastructure Development under Chattogram City Corporation including Airport Road" project.
The contractors are also involved in the city corporation's contracting business. Yet, they were blacklisted over the incident, he added.
A day after the incident, CCC security department officer Md Kamal Uddin filed a case with Khulshi police station naming 11 persons and 10 unnamed others.
Later, police arrested five contractors, including the main accused in the case Md Shahab Uddin, for attacking the project director of CCC.
The local government division appointed Engineer Gholam Yazdani last year as project director to oversee the Tk2500-crore project for developing different vital infrastructures and roads of the city, including the airport road under the city corporation.
