12 injured in boiler explosion at Gazipur factory

At least 12 workers were injured in a boiler explosion at HDF Apparels Limited in the Jainabazar area of Sreepur, Gazipur, this morning (20 January).
The injured were rescued and taken to various local hospitals for treatment. Among them, two workers are in critical condition.
The injured include workers Sujon, Rois Uddin, Shukkur, Sonia, Lima, Iqbal, Yasin Ali, and Shahjahan.
Sujon suffered severe injuries to his left leg and is receiving treatment at Al-Hera Hospital.
Yasin Ali, though not critically injured, has been moved to another hospital for advanced care by his family.
"Workers began their shifts as usual on Monday morning. At around 9am, a mini boiler with a capacity of five kilograms installed in the sample room exploded. Two workers sustained critical injuries, and 10 others were hurt. Some received first aid and were sent home, while Sujon is being treated for injuries to his leg joint," said MR Shipu Chowdhury, the factory's admin manager.
Sohel Rana, the factory's electrical in-charge, explained the possible cause of the explosion.
"The workers operating the boiler turned it on at around 8am but likely did not notice whether it was receiving water. Without water, the boiler overheated, and when the steam outlet line burst, the boiler exploded. This could have occurred because the motor failed to draw water, or there may have been no water in the tank," he said.
Dr Alim Biswas, an on-duty physician at Al-Hera Hospital, said, "We treated six patients, none of whom sustained serious injuries. Among them, Yasin Ali has been taken to Mymensingh by his family, and Sujon is still undergoing treatment at our hospital. The others left after receiving primary care."
