Sheikh family honorific to be dropped from names of 13 universities: Adviser Asif
The institutions include Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona, now renamed Netrakona University
Thirteen universities in Bangladesh that were named after members of the Sheikh family will undergo name changes, according to an announcement by Asif Mahmud, an adviser to the interim government.
He made the announcement in a post shared on his verified Facebook account today (16 January).
The institutions include Sheikh Hasina University in Netrakona, to be renamed Netrakona University. Similarly, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishoreganj will be renamed Kishoreganj University, while Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Naogaon will be Naogaon University.
Mujibnagar University in Meherpur will be renamed Meherpur University, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University in Gazipur will be Gazipur Agricultural University.
The name of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Shariatpur Agricultural University will be shortened to Shariatpur Agricultural University.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University will be renamed Bangladesh Digital University. Bongomata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Science and Technology University in Jamalpur is set to be Jamalpur Science and Technology University.
Similarly, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Pirojpur will be renamed Pirojpur Science and Technology University, while Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Narayanganj is set to be Narayanganj Science and Technology University.
Other changes include renaming Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University in Gopalganj to Gopalganj Science and Technology University, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University in Chattogram to Maritime University Bangladesh, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Aviation and Aerospace University to Aviation and Aerospace University Bangladesh.
