15,000 rotten rawhides dumped in Chattogram
The cleaners of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) threw away around 15,000 pieces of unsold rotten rawhides to the dump on Sunday.
"Failing to sell the rawhides, the seasonal traders left those on the streets. Later the cleaners dumped those in port city's Arefin Nagar," CCC Chief Cleaning Officer Sheikh Shafiqul Mannan Siddique told The Business Standard.
"10,000 of the rawhides were collected from the Aturar Depo area alone. Most of those are cow-hides," he added.
Seasonal rawhide trader Jagir Hossain said that he bought 72 rawhide that cost Tk200 on average.
"But the wholesalers only bought a few paying Tk100 for each of the rawhides. I sold those counting loss. I had to leave the unsold rawhides behind," he added.
Last year, the CCC removed more than one lakh pieces of rotten rawhides, those were abandoned on the streets after being offered very low prices.
