17 Jamaat-Shibir activists acquitted after 9 years
A Rangpur court today (18 November) acquitted 17 Jamaat-Shibir leaders and activists in a case filed on charges of creating chaos to oust the government in 2015 in Rangpur.
Judge Krishna Kanto Roy of the Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 of Rangpur passed this order, acquitting all the accused leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir this afternoon.
The accused were present in the court when the verdict was announced.
Advocate Zoynal Abedin, a lawyer for the defendants, told reporters that Kotwali Thana police conducted a raid on the Ashiq Hostel in the city on May 26, 2015 and arrested 17 Jamaat-Shibir activists.
The acquitted Jamaat-Shibir activists included Moudud Hossain of Pirgachha upazila, Motaleb Hossain and Mikail Anwar of Mithapukur upazila and Shariful Islam of Gangachara upazila in Rangpur.
After the investigation, police placed the charge sheet against 17 accused in court.
After taking the testimony of three witnesses and the arguments of the lawyers of both sides, the court acquitted the 17 accused.
