24 Bangladeshis return home after serving jail term in Myanmar
‘The Bangladeshi nationals were detained at various times for entering Myanmar illegally’
The junta government of Myanmar has sent back 24 Bangladeshi nationals who were detained on charges of entering Myanmar illegally at different times.
The Bangladeshis were returned at noon on Tuesday after a flag meeting between the two countries' border guards at Maungdaw in Myanmar.
Teknaf Battalion (BGB 2) Commander Lt Col Faisal Hasan Khan led a nine-member delegation for Bangladesh at the meeting while the six-member delegation from Myanmar was led by Lt Col Xu Ling, commanding officer, 4th Border Guard Police branch.
Faisal said the Bangladeshi nationals were detained at various times for entering Myanmar illegally.
He added that arrangements have been made to keep the 24 returnees in institutional quarantine with the help of Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer and Upazila Health Officer.
At the end of the quarantine, they will be handed over to their families, said the official.
