37 Rohingyas rescued while entering Bangladesh from Myanmar
Police rescued 37 Rohingyas, including women and children, while infiltrating from Myanmar with the help of trawlers to Teknaf, Cox's Bazar.
Teknaf Police Station OC Muhammad Gias Uddin said the Rohingyas infiltrated through the beach of Jahajpura area of Baharchara Union of Teknaf Upazila at 9:30pm yesterday (8 October).
However, he could not confirm the number of women, men and children who were rescued.
Gias Uddin said a group of Rohingyas infiltrated the Jahajpura beach point of Teknaf with the help of trawlers on Tuesday night. The locals saw them and detained them. After receiving information, a police team reached the spot and rescued them.
The rescued Rohingyas said they had infiltrated by sea through brokers from Myanmar.
The OC said the higher authorities of the police have been informed about the Rohingyas. Action will be taken according to the instructions of the administration concerned, he added.
The Rohingyas were taken to the Baharchara police investigation centre, said Muhammad Gias Uddin.
