Bride among 7 dead as bridal party boat sinks in Meghna
At least seven people, including a newly-wed bride, died as a bridal party trawler, carrying more than 80 people, capsized in the Meghna River in Noakhali's Hatia on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the afternoon when the trawler was heading towards Bhola's Monpura from Caring Char.
The engine-run boat all of a sudden capsized in the river. Later, it was washed ashore near Tankir Ghat area.
Locals recovered seven bodies, including the bride, from the boat.
It is being suspected that the accident took place when the boat collided with a char and developed a crack at its hull.
However, rescue operation was underway to trace the missing ones as of filing of this report at 6pm. A total of 30 passengers were rescued from the river.
Shohag, a police constable engaged in the rescue drive, confirmed the information and said they were trying to rescue the missing ones.
