Modi: Was jailed for staging Satyagraha for Bangladesh’s independence
India’s prime minister added that he is grateful Bangladesh included him in the Golden Jubilee of Independence event
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the Liberation War of Bangladesh is of special significance in his political career as he landed in jail for staging a Satyagraha, non-violent protest, in support of Bangladesh.
"The independence movement of Bangladesh was a significant moment in my journey too... My colleagues and I had done a Satyagraha in India... I was barely in my early twenties. I even had the opportunity to go to jail during this Satyagraha in support of Bangladesh's struggle for freedom," he said at the National Parade Square in Dhaka on Friday.
He was speaking as the guest of honour at the grand celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh's Independence.

President Md Abdul Hamid attended the occasion as the chief guest while Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over it.
Narendra Modi expressed his gratitude for being invited, saying "This is one of the most memorable days of my life. I am grateful that Bangladesh has included me in this event."
