8 of family, 4 others jailed for forging land documents
The convicts tried to evict the land-owners from their 36 decimal plot of land in Dhaka in 2012
A Dhaka court upheld a lower court verdict that sentenced 12 people, including eight members of a family, to different jail terms for forging land documents. The Dhaka court gave the appeal verdict on December 5.
One of the convicts is Wahiduzzaman Bhuiyan, the deed writer (licence no 144) at Demra sub-registry office, who has been sentenced to five-years rigorous imprisonment.
The family members are Golam Hossain,72, his wife Ambia Khatun,55, their three sons Golam Kibria, Golam Sagir, Golam Sohel, and three daughters Nargis Akter, Ferdous Akter, and Rojee Akther. They have been sentenced to one-year rigorous imprisonment each.

Three witnesses - Shafiqul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, and Nur Hossain – got one-year jail term each.
All the convicts were also fined TK10,000 each, and will have to serve two more months in jail in default.
Special Judge Joynal Abedin gave the verdict and directed the convicts to surrender at court within 30 days of the verdict being given.
According to the case details, the convicts tried to evict Saleh Uddin Ahmed and his family from their 36 decimal plot of land in the Dogair Moaza area of Dhaka on June 28, 2012.
The convicts sold the land using fabricated documents through a person who is not the legal owner.
The actual owners of the land filed a petition at the Metropolitan Magistrate court in 2012. The court gave a verdict on March 5, 2017 under section 467/109 of the penal code.
The convicts later filed an appeal against the verdict, but the appellate court upheld the judgement of the lower court.
