ACC quizzes GK Shamim’s wife

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has quizzed Shamima Sultana, wife of GK Shamim, who made a fortune as a contractor identifying himself as Jubo League leader.
"An ACC team led by Director Sayed Iqbal Hossain started quizzing her at 10am at the ACC headquarters," said its spokesperson Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
GK Shamim, who was known as an influential contractor of Sabujbagh, Basabo and Motijheel areas of the capital, was arrested during a Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) drive at his Niketan office on September 20 last year huge amount of money and illegal firearms.
RAB confiscated around Tk1.81crore in cash, Tk1.75billion worth of fixed-deposit receipt or FDR savings, alcohol and firearms. During the raid, RAB also seized FDR worth Tk165.27crore in his mother's name.
Later on October 21, the anti-graft commission filed a case against GK Shamim and his mother Ayesha Akhter for allegedly amassing wealth worth Tk297.899crore illegally.
The ACC on October 27 appealed to the court to show Shamim arrested in their case. The court granted the ACC plea. Later, the commission also moved the court with remand plea for quizzing him. After hearing, the court placed him on 7-day remand.
GK Shamim is also facing three more cases filed by RAB - one under the Narcotics Control Act, another under the Money laundering Prevention Act and the other one under the Arms Act.
