'All-Party Muslim Unity Council' places 6-point demand
The Unity called for protest rallies and processions in all upazilas of Bhola on October 22.
The All Party Muslim Unity Council organised a press conference in Bhola today to outline their 6-point demand, including the passing of a law that sentences anyone for mocking and slandering Islam to death.
The press conference also threatened greater agitation if the demands are not met within the next 12 hours.
In a written statement, the convener of the Muslim Unity Council, Mizanur Rahman, held the Bhola superintendent of police responsible for the deaths of four men from Borhanuddin, and demanded the withdrawal of the officer in charge of Borhanuddin Police Station from his post.
At the same time, the council demanded the execution of the suspect named Biplob, compensation for the families of the deceased, treatment of the injured and release of the people who have been arrested, and a proper inquiry into the case.
The Unity called for protest rallies and processions in all upazilas of Bhola on October 22, a human chain on October 24 and prayer assembly in remembrance of the deceased on October 25 through the press release.
Maulana Bashir Uddin, the convenor of the council, Maulana Tajuddin, secretary of the council, and other leaders spoke at the conference.
On Sunday, four people were killed and hundreds injured in Bhola's Borhanuddin upazila in clashes between police and local people. The local people were demonstrating for punishment of a youth who, they claimed, had hurt their religious sentiment in a Facebook post.
