Kushtia superintendent of police SM Tanvir Arafat said CCTV camera footage of the scene has been collected
Miscreants have vandalised an under construction sculpture of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Panch Rasta intersection in Kushtia district town.
Various parts of the sculpture have been damaged, reports Prothom Alo.
Kushtia superintendent of police SM Tanvir Arafat said CCTV camera footage of the scene has been collected.
"Two miscreants are seen vandalising the sculpture around 2am," said Arafat.
Police are now trying to identify the miscreants, said the SP adding that they will bring them under the law soon.
According to Kushtia Municipality sources, it was decided in November that three sculptures of Bangabandhu at the intersection of Panch Rasta of the town will be erected with the municipality's funds.
Work started on November 17 and a part of it was already finished but some miscreants vandalised various parts and broke them off.
Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif, MP from Kushtia-3 (Sadar) constituency said, "Such heinous act will not be tolerated in Kushtia. All those, who are behind the incident and who instigate, will be punished."
Kushtia Municipality Mayor Anwar Ali said the police have been informed.
Besides, the process is underway to file a case in this regard.
