Ruman Shana to fly for Tokyo Wednesday
Bangladeshi Archery team comprising country’s premier archer Mohammad Ruman Shana and Beauty Roy will return home on Tuesday morning from Germany after participating the Archery World Cup, Stage-4 held at Maifield in Berlin last week.
Famed archer Ruman Shana, who qualified for the Tokyo Olympics 2020 as the first Bangladeshi archer on merit after winning the first-ever bronze medal in the World Archery Championship, will fly for Tokyo on Wednesday to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics Test Event.
The Olympics Committee is organising the “Tokyo 2020 Test Event-Ready Study Tokyo” from July 12-18 at Yumenoshima Park Archery Field in Tokyo, the venue of Tokyo Olympics 2020 and Para Olympic Games, as part of the preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games.
But, the German Coach of Bangladesh Archery team Martin Frederick will not return with the team on Tuesday. He will fly for Tokyo from Berlin directly.
Earlier, in the recently concluded World Cup Archery, Stage-4, Bangladesh famed archer Ruman Shana was eliminated from his favourite event -- men’s recurve singles--losing to Brady Ellison of the USA by straight 0-6 set points in the round of 16 at Maifield in Berlin, Germany on Thursday.
On the way to round of 16, Shana defeated Rajan Kalapurayil of Switzerland in the round of 48 and Nomura Tsubasa of Japan in the round of 24, both by the identical 6-2 set points.
Another Bangladeshi archer Beauty Roy was also eliminated from the women’s recurve singles as she went down to Alexandra Mirca of Moldova by 0-6 sets in the round of 24 on Wednesday.
Bangladesh also failed to cross the first round hurdle in the recurve mixed team event as Bangladeshi pair Shana and Beauty lost to Alen Remar and Tihana Kovacic of Croatia by 1-5 set points in the round of 12.
Bangladeshi archers took part in the event to improve their performance and skill ahead of the heavyweight competition, Tokyo Olympic.
