Bangladesh becomes executive board member of 3 UN bodies
The country secured the highest votes for the term 2021-2023
Bangladesh has been elected as the executive board member of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS).
The election was held on Monday at the UN headquarters in New York where the 54 members of the Economic and Social Council (Ecosoc) voted to elect members to eight of its subsidiary bodies.
Bangladesh secured the highest votes – 53 of the 54 votes with 1 abstention – for the term 2021-2023, beginning from January 2021.

The victory is a demonstration of the trust and confidence that Bangladesh enjoys due to its strong legacy of working together with the UN entities and their executive boards towards socio-economic emancipation of the country, according to a press release of the Bangladesh Permanent Mission at the UN.
Bangladesh is also a current member of the executive boards of the UN Children's Fund (Unicef) and UN Women.
And Ambassador Rabab Fatima, permanent representative of Bangladesh at the UN, is the current president of Unicef executive board.
