Bangladesh exports skilled manpower to Uzbekistan for first time

The first batch of Bangladeshi workers comprising 240 workforces flew for Uzbekistan by an Uzbekistan Airways special aircraft from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) at 10:30 am on Saturday.
 
Confirming the matter, Fakhrul Islam, in-charge of expatriate welfare desk at the HSIA, told The Business Standard (TBS), "Those who have left for Uzbekistan are skilled in the plumbing, wiring, etc and have worked in the home and abroad".
 
Shamsul Alam, director general of the Bureau of Manpower, Employment and Training (BMET), told TBS, "These workers have gone through two recruiting agencies who have assessed their skills. We have also tested their skills randomly."

BMET sources said around 1,000 workers would go to the country gradually through the recruiting agencies in the process of exporting skilled manpower.

In recent months, around 2.5 lakh Bangladeshi workers have returned home amid the pandemic, mostly from Middle East destinations. However, the government is exploring new migrant destination, especially in European countries.
