Bangladesh seeks increased manpower export to Kuwait
Ambassador Hamadah affirmed Kuwait's commitment to increasing manpower imports from Bangladesh
Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has requested Kuwait to increase its intake of Bangladeshi workers.
He made the call during a meeting with Kuwaiti Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ali Th A Q Hamadah, at the Secretariat today (3 February), said a press release issued by the home ministry.
During the meeting, the home adviser emphasised the strong historical ties between the two nations, noting that approximately 280,000 Bangladeshis currently working in Kuwait.
While acknowledging Kuwait's interest in female domestic workers, he urged them to also consider male workers.
Ambassador Hamadah affirmed Kuwait's commitment to increasing manpower imports from Bangladesh, highlighting their long-standing relationship as Muslim and Asian allies.
He recalled Bangladesh's support during the post-Iraq-Kuwait war, particularly in mine clearance operations where 270 Bangladeshi soldiers were killed and 56 injured.
He also pointed out the absence of a bilateral agreement on manpower export and stressed the need for a swift conclusion.
The discussions covered a range of topics, including manpower export, military and security cooperation, Rohingya refugee assistance, and capacity building for Bangladeshi law enforcement agencies.
The home adviser expressed gratitude for Kuwait's ongoing support, particularly regarding the Rohingya issue, and suggested that Kuwait increase its aid if USAID funding for Rohingya refugees ceases.
The ambassador reiterated Kuwait's commitment to supporting the Rohingyas, recalling their efforts to raise international awareness in 2017.
Regarding the law and order situation in Bangladesh, Adviser Jahangir Alam assured the ambassador of significant improvements, especially since 5 August political changeover.
The ambassador thanked him for the enhanced security provided to the Kuwait Embassy and the Baridhara diplomatic area.
Additional Secretary Khandaker Md Mahbubur Rahman and Joint Secretary Md Jasim Uddin Khan from the home ministry were also present at the meeting.
