Bangladesh’s tax regime is aggressive: NBR chairman
During the event, business leaders presented various complaints and instances of disparity regarding tax
Bangladesh's tax regime is aggressive, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan acknowledged today (4 December) in response of the complaints of country's businessmen about the tax regime.
"It's correct that the tax regime of Bangladesh is aggressive," the NBR chairman said at a roundtable meeting as the chief guest at capital's Gulshan.
"It is also true that some businessmen do not provide accurate information," he added.
During the event, business leaders presented various complaints and instances of disparity regarding tax.
Debabrata Roy Chowdhury, the company secretary and head of Legal and Taxation at Nestle Bangladesh Limited, explained how the current tax framework poses challenges to both local and foreign investment as well as business operations.
"There is no continuation in our tax system. The duty structure that attracts an investor changes right after the investment is made, due to which the investment has to be stopped. This creates problems for employment generation," he said.
