Police say Juba Dal leader died while fleeing, BNP blames AL men
BNP alleged that Md Abdur Rashid was thrown off the terrace of an under-construction building after being beaten.
The BNP and police have provided conflicting narratives regarding Juba Dal leader Abdul Rashid's death in the capital's Adabor area today.
"Abdul Rashid, Adabar Thana BNP's local government affairs unit secretary under ward-30, was killed by the activists of ruling Awami League while he was returning from a procession aimed at enforcing today's hartal," Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP member Aminul Haque said on Sunday (29 October).
He alleged that Md Abdur Rashid was thrown off the terrace of an under-construction building after being beaten.
"The man who died falling off a building is a matter of investigation, Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Mohammadpur zone assistant commissioner Azizul Haque told The Business Standard.
"Our initial findings indicate that locals chased him while he was fleeing the scene after setting a bus on fire in the Mohammadpur area. In a desperate bid to evade public fury, he scaled an adjacent under-construction building, ultimately choosing to jump," said Azizul Haque.
"A thorough investigation will be run to reveal the actual cause of death," he added.
When asked who chased him away, the police officials said, "We don't know their political identities, they might be from the locality."
