A section of Bangladesh Chhatra League's (BCL) Chittagong University (CU) unit staged a demonstration today demanding immediate arrest and permanent expulsion of the accused of Taposh murder case.
More than 100 BCL activists, under the banner of 'Taposh Smriti Sangshad' brought out a procession from Shah Amant hall and ended in front of the university's administrative building around 1:30pm.
Sharif Hossain, one of the friends of the slain Taposh, and also a former assistant secretary of CU BCL, said: "Almost five years have passed, but CU authorities still have not expelled the accused, who killed my friend Tapoh Sarker."
"Our demands are permanent expulsion of the accused from university and immediately arrest," Hossain added.
On December 14, 2014, Taposh Sarkar, a first year student of the Department of Sanskrit, was shot dead in front of Shah Amanat hall during a clash between two factions of CU Chhatra League. Taposh was also a Chhatra League activist.
Two days later, Taposh's friend Hafizul Islam filed a murder case with Hathazari police station naming 30 Chhatra League activists and around 10-15 unnamed people. The case is under ongoing process.
