Bengal, Birmingham Museum celebrate Bangladesh 50
Birmingham Museums has recently organised a string of special events titled "Bangladesh 50: Commemorating Independence from 1971 to 2021" jointly with the Bengal Foundation to mark the 50th anniversary of Bangladesh independence.
As part of the spring programme, the movie Under Construction, directed by Rubaiyat Hossain will air on the Birmingham Museum's YouTube channel for 48 hours on Friday till Saturday, said a press release.
A discussion on 'Women's Identities in Bangladesh and its Diaspora' will be held on Saturday.

Edinburgh University Professor Dr Lotte Heck, Director Rubaiyat Hossain, New York University Professor Dr Dina Siddiqui and artist Nilupa Yasmin will take part in it.
Also, Artist Mostafa Zaman's photography exhibition titled "Lost Memory Eternalised" will be screened outdoors in Birmingham Museum next June /July.
Rebecca Bridgman, curatorial and exhibitions manager of the Birmingham Museums Trust, said, "Bangladesh has a deep connection with Birmingham. Birmingham is home to a significant number of immigrants of Bangladeshi descent, many of whom played an active role in shaping public opinion during the Liberation War."
"We hope that the programs presented will help us explore how the liberation war of 1971 inspired the people of Bangladesh, especially the position of women at that time, their rights and struggles, and the form that has been created in the course of time," she added.
Luva Nahid Chowdhury, Director General, Bengal Foundation, said, "Through the joint venture with Birmingham Museums on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Bangladesh's independence, we have been able to present some new narratives in film and photography that will inspire and intrigue the audience."
