Beximco Industrial Park labour unrest: 6-member committee formed to solve crisis

A six-member committee has been formed by the interim government to review the labour and business environment of Beximco Industrial Park following more than a week of protests by workers of Beximco factories over undue wages.
The committee — led by Labour and Employment Adviser Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hussain — is tasked with recommending short, medium and long-term measures to solve the labour unrest of the park, according to a notification issued by the Cabinet Division today (24 November).
Other members of the committee are Finance Adviser Salehuddin Ahmed, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin and Chief Adviser's Special Envoy on International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqui.

In the face of protests, the government had decided to grant Tk60 crore in loans to Beximco Group in order to end the ongoing labour unrest of the workers of the company's factories centring unpaid October wages.

Production in the company's factories in the park came to a halt later amid raw material shortage and labour payment issues.
