Rab detains BNP leader Nipun Roy
The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) has detained BNP Executive Committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury from the city's Rayerbazar area.
She was held on allegation of conspiring sabotage to torch buses in the capital, said Rab Legal and Media Wing Director Lt Col Ashik Billah confirming her arrest to The Business Standard.
Apart from her, Arman Hossain, an associate of her, was arrested from Keraniganj around 9am on same charges, reports UNB.
They will be handed over to Hazaribagh Police Station after completion of legal procedures, the Rab officer said.
Nipun's father-in-law and BNP Standing Committee Member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy said law enforcers picked her up from his Rayerbazar residence around 3:45pm.
Gayeshwar said they do not know the reason behind her detention. "I'm not in the capital. My family members said police didn't tell them why she was being detained," he told UNB.
Nipun is the daughter of BNP Vice-Chairman Netai Roy Chowdhury.
