Child killed, 100 houses gutted in a Rohingya camp fire
A five-year-old child was killed and 100 houses were burnt in a fire which broke out at a Rohingya camp in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar district early today (17 January).
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately.
The fire broke out at the Nayapara Mouchani camp G Block around 12am and spread soon, said Mohammad Kawsar Shikdar, commanding officer and additional deputy inspector general of Armed Police Battalion-16.
On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one hour of hectic effort around 1am.
Later, police recovered the charred body of the child.
Around 100 houses were burnt into ashes during the fire, he said.
However, what caused the fire could not be known immediately.
