Coast guard seizes 9,700kg of immature hilsa in Munshiganj raids
In a coordinated operation, the Bangladesh Coast Guard seized 9,700 kilograms of immature Hilsa fish in separate raids conducted in Gazaria and Louhajong upazilas of Munshiganj district.
Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, confirmed the news on Monday afternoon.
He said that acting on a tip-off, a team from the BCG Station Gazaria conducted a special operation in the Shatnal area adjacent to Gazaria upazila from 3 a.m. to 7 a.m. on Monday. During the operation, a launch carrying 1,200 kilograms of illegal immature Hilsa fish en route from Ilisha to Narayanganj was intercepted, and the fish were seized.
In another operation conducted at 6 a.m. by the BCG Composite Station Padma, near the Padma Bridge toll plaza, a truck carrying 8,500 kilograms of illegal immature Hilsa fish en route from Barisal to Dhaka was intercepted, and the fish seized.
No arrests were made as the owners of the seized fish could not be found.
The seized fish were later distributed among madrasas, orphanages, and the poor with the assistance of local fisheries officials.
