Commuters suffer as heavy rain waterlogs streets, cripples Dhaka traffic

Rainfall across the capital in the early morning has caused waterlogging in certain areas, leading to a breakdown of the traffic system.
Roads in Dhanmondi, Mirpur, Adabar, Kathalbagan, Shewrapara, Malibagh, West Tejturi Bazar, Bangshal, Bakshibazar, Tejgaon, Tejkunipara and Bashundhara areas have been submerged in knee-deep water which has caused heavy traffic jams in the areas.
"Due to waterlogging in front of Maasranga TV, Dhaka Gate, and the surrounding areas, traffic is severely disrupted," Traffic Gulshan Division wrote on its Facebook.
They reported vehicles on the road from Nikunja-Joar Sahara-Radisson to Kakoli moving very slowly.
Officegoers and schoolgoers have been suffering.
The situation is worse at Karwan Bazar, where even rickshaw seats were seen submerged in waist-deep water.
