Ashulia burning bodies: Arrest warrants issued against ex-MP Saiful, 4 policemen
All five have been asked to be arrested immediately and produced before the tribunal
The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against former Dhaka-19 MP Saiful Islam and four police officers in connection with the shooting and burning of bodies in Ashulia during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement protests.
The two-member tribunal headed by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mazumder passed the order today (December 24) after hearing the prosecution's application.
All five have been asked to be arrested immediately and produced before the tribunal, ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Tajul Islam said.
A progress report on the matter will be submitted on 26 January.
Earlier, Hujjatul Islam Khan, the brother of Sabur, who was killed in Ashulia on 5 August, and the lawyer of victim Sajal's mother, filed a complaint over the deaths with the investigation agency of the ICT on 11 September.
The complaint states that after Hasina fled on 5 August, at approximately 4:30pm, all police members of Ashulia Police Station in Dhaka district and members of Dhaka DB North, on the orders of the then prime minister and those accused, opened fire on jubilating students, killing As-Sabur, Abdul Mannan, Mizanur Rahman, Tanjil Mahmud Sujoy, Sajjad Hossain Sajal and Bayezid.
The victim's bodies were burned in front of Ashulia Police Station, the complaint said.
