Atiqul, Palak, 2 others remanded in fresh mass uprising cases

A court today (22 January) placed four people including former Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) mayor Atiqul Islam and former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak on different terms of remand in cases lodged over murder and attempt to murder taken place during the student-led July-August mass uprising.
The two other remanded accused are former lawmaker Sadek Khan and former councillor of DNCC ward-29 Salimullah Solu.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiyak passed the orders as police produced the four accused before the court and pleaded to place them on different terms of remand in the cases.
Of the four, Atiqul Islam was placed on a three-day remand in a case filed with the Uttara East Police Station over the killing of Md Fazlul Karim on August 5. Karim's brother Anwar Hossain filed the case on 21 August.
Palak, Sadek and Solu were placed on a two-day remand in a case filed with the capital's Mohammadpur Police Station over the alleged attempt to murder rickshaw van puller Insan Ali on 19 July.
