Banglamotor bus accident: Helper Bacchu sent behind bars

A Dhaka court on Saturday has sent bus helper Bacchu Mia to jail in connection with a case filed over the accident that caused a female government official to lose her leg in the capital's Banglamotor on August 27.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Atiqul Islam passed the order after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) Inspector Jewel Miah had produced Bacchu before the court, General Recording Officer of Hatirjheel Police Station Sub-inspector Farid Ahmed confirmed The Business Standard.
The court has set Sunday as the date to hear the plea of the defendant.
A PBI team led by Sub-Inspector Al Amin Sheikh, arrested Bacchu from Gouripur Upazila in Mymensingh yesterday at around 8:30pm, read a press release.
Earlier on September 2, the PBI arrested bus driver Morshed from the capital's Kazipara. But the bus helper Bacchu was on the run after the incident.
Krishna Roy Chowdhury, 55, assistant manager (accounts) at Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation, lost her left leg after a recklessly-driven bus ran over her on a pavement in Banglamotor on August 27.
The victim had been rushed to the Holy Family Red Crescent Medical College Hospital and was later shifted to the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation.
