Dr Yunus' bail extended till 4 July
A labour court has extended the bail of Grameen Telecom chairman and Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus and three other top officials of the company in a case filed over labour law violations.
Judge MA Awal of the Labour Appellate Tribunal passed the order on Thursday (23 May) after the accused in the case appeared before the court, confirmed Abdullah Al Mamun, a counsel for Dr Yunus.
The court also fixed 4 July for the next hearing on the appeal against the judgement of the labour court.
Dr Yunus, accompanied by his lawyer and associates related to the case, arrived at the Labour Appellate Tribunal in Kakrail around 11am.
Previously, on 16 April, a labour court had extended their bail period until 23 May after dismissing an application for permanent bail for Dr Muhammad Yunus and the three other accused.
On 1 January, Dhaka's 3rd Labour Court sentenced Dr Yunus, Grameen Telecom's director and former managing director Md Ashraful Hasan, members of board of directors Nur Jahan Begum and Md Shahjahan to six-month jail in the case.
Judge Sheikh Marina Sultana of the labour court announced the verdict. Later, the court granted them one-month interim bail after they filed separate petitions.
