Hasina's nephew Moin Abdullah placed on 4-day remand over attack on BNP procession, office vandalism
A Barishal court has placed former prime minister Sheikh Hasina's nephew Moin Abdullah on a four-day remand in two separate cases over alleged attack on BNP's procession in the district and vandalism of its party office.
Barisal Metropolitan Magistrate Court-1 Judge Nurul Amin gave the order today at 4pm.
Moin is the son of former Chief Whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah, who is Sheikh Hasina's cousin. He also held the position of director at the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI).
General Recording Officer (GRO) of the court Sub-Inspector (SI) Enamul Haque said the investigating officers applied for a five-day remand in each case.
The judge then granted two days for each case.
Moin was also shown arrested in two other cases and sent to jail.
The plaintiff's lawyer Advocate Abul Kalam Azad said the cases were filed by Metropolitan BNP Convener Moniruzzaman Khan Faruk and Member Secretary Zia Uddin Sikder in connection with the attack on the party's mourning procession in the city's Chowmatha area and the attack, vandalism and arson of the BNP party office in the city.
The defendant's lawyer Advocate Laskar Nurul Haque said they had applied for bail. After hearing arguments of both parties, the court granted a four-day remand. "We will apply for bail again at a later date."
Earlier on 23 October, detectives in a drive arrested Moin Abdullah from a house in the city's Gulshan-2 area.
A team of DB police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am.
He was wanted in several cases filed with different police stations in Barishal under various sections of the Penal Code, including the Explosive Substances Act.
