HC stays eviction drive on lawmaker’s power plant
The High Court has directed that MP Aslam's application be disposed of within 10 days
The High Court (HC) has stayed an order on the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority's (BIWTA) eviction drive on ruling party lawmaker Aslam's power plant and its activities.
Allegedly Aslamul Haque, member of parliament (MP) from Dhaka 14 constituency, built the Maisha power plant by occupying the banks of the Turag River.
The HC bench, comprising Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice AKM Zahirul Huq, passed the order on Wednesday after hearing the petition filed by MP Aslam.
The HC has directed that MP Aslam's application be disposed of within 10 days; one which said the power plant was being built with the permission of the government and not by occupying the river bank.
Deputy Attorney General of the bench Amit Das Gupta mentioned that the court said BIWTA would demolish the power plant if it was commissioned before the matter was settled.
