60 held with deer traps in Sundarbans
A team of the Forest Department in a drive today detained 60 people with deer hunting traps and three trawlers from the Sundarbans.
Acting on a tip-off that a group of men were out for hunting deer, the team conducted the drive at Joymoni area of Chandpai range, said Divisional Forest Officer of eastern Sundarbans division Md Mahmudul Hasan.
The detainees are the residents of Bagerhat's Rampal upazila.
Mahmudul said the men tried to use Rash Mela, a Hindu festival, as an excuse to go to the Sundarbans for hunting.
"A case will be filed against them in this connection," he added.
