70 birds poisoned to death in Chattogram
Trapping, selling, buying, consuming or caging of wild birds is a punishable offence
Over 70 birds of different species were poisoned to death allegedly by a teenage boy in Raozan upazila of Chattogram on Friday.
Local people alleged that the boy identified as Murad from Mobarakkhil Jamtola area of the upazila killed the birds by feeding them poison-mixed rice for consumption purposes.
Different species of birds are seen in the area and local people feed the birds, the local people said.
Officer-in-Charge of Raozan Police Station Kefayet Ullah said legal steps will be taken if any case is filed in connection with the incident.
Rauzan Upazila Nirbahi Officer Jonayed Kabir said the trapping, selling, buying, consuming or caging of wild birds is a punishable offence as per the Bangladesh Wildlife (Protection and Safety) Act.
