A total of 74 high-profile individuals affiliated with the ousted Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League (AL) government have been arrested so far, according to the Bangladesh Police.
Besides, a total of 1,695 cases have been lodged so far against attackers and instigators of the July-August student-led mass uprising, the police said in a press release on Sunday (13 October).
Moreover, 3,195 individuals were arrested in specific allegations in the last 13 days.
"In the past, those who were involved in various types of crimes, including extortion, terrorist activities, through political parties have also been prosecuted, arrested and legal action has been taken," reads the press release signed by AIG (media) of the Police Headquarters Inamul Haque Sagar.
Reiterating the Bangladesh Police's commitment to implement the aspirations of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, the police said there is no reason for students and the public to be alarmed.
"Police service will be harassment free and people friendly. The Bangladesh Police will ensure that no one is subjected to undue harassment."
