ACC probing corruption allegations of 20, including 9 ex-MPs, ministers

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into massive corruption allegations against 20 individuals, including nine former lawmakers and ministers.
Of the individuals, former Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, who is also an ex-lawmaker for Rajshahi-8 constituency, is under investigation over alleged corruption involving Tk6,000 crore.
ACC Director General (Prevention) Akhtar Hossain confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.
"The ACC has started investigations against AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and eight former members of parliament of six Rajshahi constituencies. They have been accused of going into hiding, leaving assets of Tk6,000 crore," said the ACC DG.
The other ex-lawmakers are former Rajshahi-6 MP Shahriar Alam, former Rajshahi-1 MP Omor Faruk, former Rajshahi-2 MP Fazle Hossain Badsha, former Rajshahi-3 MP Asaduzzaman Asad, former Rajshahi-3 MP Ayeen Uddin Enamul Haque, former Rajshahi-4 MP, former Rajshahi-4 MP Abul Kalam Azad and former Rajshahi-5 MP Md Mansur Rahman.
The ACC is also investigating Awami League's Central Industry and Commerce Sub-Committee member and Diamond World Managing Director Dilip Kumar Agarwala, ex-state minister for power and former Dhaka-3 MP Nasrul Hamid Bipu and ex-Bajus president Enamul Haque Dolan.
"A decision has been taken by the commission to investigate allegations of irregularities and corruption in the power sector through syndication against former state minister for power Nasrul Hamid Bipu and others," said Akhtar Hossain.
Agarwala and Dolan are accused of illegally earning thousands of crores of taka by smuggling gold through syndication during the Awami League regime, said the ACC DG.
The anti-graft agency has also decided to investigate allegations of fraud and embezzlement of thousands of crores of taka in the name of development work of various airports in the country in the last 15 years against eight individuals, including ousted premier Sheikh Hasina's security adviser Tariq Ahmed Siddiqui.
Besides, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohibul Haque, ex-joint secretary Zanendra Nath Sarker, ex-chairman of Civil Aviation Authority M Mafidur Rahman, ex-civil aviation chief engineer Md Abdul Malek, Superintendent Engineer Md Habibur Rahman, Aeroness International proprietors Mahbub Anam and owner Lutfullah Majed.
