Arafat not arrested, says DMP debunking media reports
“A Detective Branch team of the DMP conducted a raid in his Gulshan residence. But he was not found there,” said a DMP official.
Mohammad Ali Arafat, former state minister for information and broadcasting, has not been arrested today (27 August), the Dhaka Metropolitan Police said amid media reports stating that he was apprehended from Gulshan, Dhaka.
"We do not have any such information of him being arrested," Obaidur Rahman, additional deputy commissioner of DMP's media wing, told The Business Standard.
"A Detective Branch team of the DMP conducted a raid in his Gulshan residence. But he was not found there," said another DMP official on condition of anonymity.
Earlier, several media outlets, including The Business Standard, reported that the former state minister was arrested from Gulshan, citing DMP sources.
Some media reports claimed that he was arrested in a case filed with the New Market Police Station.
