Ex-mayor Taposh among 30 sued for Bangabazar fire
Former Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh and 29 others have been sued over allegations of deliberately setting fire to the Bangabazar market in the capital in April last year.
The case was filed with the Shahbagh Police Station on Friday (22 November).
A man named Kamal Hossain Ripon, Mirpur resident, filed the case alleging the fire incurred damages worth Tk500 crore.
The police sent its report to the court yesterday.
The case named 18 people, including Taposh, Dhaka South City Corporation Chief Executive Officer Mizanur Rahman, former MP Afzal Hossain, former ward councillor Farid Uddin Ratan, and some local Awami League leaders.
It alleges that the accused were behind the planning and conspiracy behind the devastating fire that took place on 4 April 2023.
