Journalist-assaulting ex-BCL leader detained with yaba
Riyad assaulted few journalists while they were performing professional duties during the Dhaka city corporation elections on February 1
Chhatra League leader Shahidul Islam Khan Riyad, who was suspended for breaching organisational discipline, has been arrested with contraband yaba tablets today.
Police detained Riyad along with one of his associates Khokon early Sunday with around 5 kilograms of yaba tablets from Roy Shaheb area in the capital, confirmed Wazed Ali, officer –in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station.
Earlier, Riyad assaulted few journalists in capital's Faridabad area while they were performing professional duties during the Dhaka city corporation elections on February 1.
The assaulted journalists are- Nurul Amin, staff reporter of The Business Standard; Ibrahim Sarker, special correspondent at the Photo Bangla Agency; Mostafizur Rahman Sumon, Crime Reporter of the online news portal Agami News; Sheikh Hasan, chief photographer of Kaler Kantha; Mahabub Momtaji and Golam Rabbani, staff reporters of Bangladesh Pratidin; Zisad Ikbal, special correspondent of PBA (Press Bangla Agency); Osman Goni, photo journalist of Poriborton; Al-Fatah Mamun, Gandaria correspondent for the Daily Jugantor; Shamchul Islam, staff reporter of Daily Naya Diganta and Faruk Hossain, Staff Reporter of Daily Inqilab.
Later two journalist -- Nurul Amin and Mahabub Momtaji filed a general diary with Gendaria police station.
