Krishak League leader, 2 others put on remand for gang-raping teen in Savar

A Savar court has granted a one-day remand against three persons including a former leader of Bangladesh Krishak League in connection with the gang-rape of a teenage girl in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital.
The accused are former general secretary of Bhakurta Union Krishak League Abdur Rashid, 30, Md Kamal, 40, and Md Dwin Islam. Police arrested them on Thursday (25 August) night.
They were produced before a Dhaka court seeking a seven-day remand but the court granted the police one-day remand for each of them, said Md Rassel Mia, inspector of Savar Model police station and the investigation officer of the case.
On 22 August, the victim's family filed a case with Savar Model Police Station, accusing seven individuals and naming four suspects believed to be responsible for the gang rape, which was allegedly related to a land dispute.
Alongside the rape allegations, accusations of theft, including valuable gold ornaments, cash, and a mobile phone was made in the case.
According to the case statement, after having dinner on the night of 21 August, family members fell ill. During the night, while everyone was asleep, three unidentified assailants breached the house by cutting through the grill. Later, two of these intruders raped a 15-year-old 9th-grade student from the victim's family, tying her hands and feet and placing a cloth in her mouth.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Deepak Chandra Saha of Savar Model Police Station informed TBS an investigation into the incident is underway.
