Ctg police enforce 13 guidelines for New Year’s eve celebrations
The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has issued 13 directives to ensure public safety and law and order during New Year's eve celebrations on Tuesday.
In a press release on Monday, CMP emphasised its commitment to maintaining peace and security, supported by enhanced safety measures across the city.
Authorities have announced police deployment at key locations, including checkpoints, churches, hotels, clubs, and entertainment venues. Patrols will be intensified, traffic police will implement special measures, and plainclothes officers will conduct surveillance.
The guidelines strictly prohibited gatherings, festivities, or cultural programmes on roads, flyovers, rooftops, or public spaces. Use of fireworks, lanterns, or firecrackers is banned. Public access to Patenga and Parki beaches is restricted from 6pm on December 31 to 10am the following day. All licenced bars and liquor stores must remain closed from 6pm on December 31 to 6pm on January 1.
CMP has also urged citizens to maintain cultural decency and avoid excessive noise or reckless driving. Individuals found under the influence of drugs will face strict legal action. Separate arrangements for women at events have been recommended to ensure safety and respect.
Hotels are prohibited from hosting DJ parties or renting out rooms for unauthorised gatherings. The police have also requested citizens to refrain from actions that disrupt public peace or violate societal norms.
Drivers are advised against honking or speeding in the Karnaphuli Tunnel and the Elevated Expressway. The public is encouraged to report any emergencies or suspicious activities to CMP's control room or the national emergency helpline 999.
CMP has assured comprehensive security measures to facilitate a peaceful celebration of New Year's eve while urging citizens to cooperate and follow the issued directives.
