Heavy rainfall likely on 10-14 Sep due to depression

A depression is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by Saturday, causing heavy rainfall all over the country for the next four days from that day. 

Meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam said a depression forming over the Bay of Bengal might intensify into a cyclonic storm, causing gusty wind and heavy rainfall in the coastal areas.

Meteorologist Mostofa Kamal, president of Graduate Students' Association at University of Saskatchewan, Canada, said in a video message that the depression might form over the Andaman Sea on Thursday. It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm moving northwestward and hit somewhere between Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in India on 10 September (Saturday).

He said currently there is no possibility that the cyclonic storm will hit the coasts of Bangladesh. However, it might cause 2-3 feet tide along with heavy rain in the coastal areas including Chattogram from Saturday. 

Thereafter, moderate to heavy rains are likely across the country on 11-12 September. Almost all the districts across the country, especially the ones in Barishal, Chattogram and Khulna divisions, are likely to witness heavy rainfall during that time.

The meteorologist also said the fishermen from the Cox's Bazar area should return to the coast by 9 September (Friday). The fishermen from Barishal and Khulna divisions should return to the coast by 10 September (Saturday).

He said farmers should not apply any fertiliser to the land during this period as it will wash away due to heavy rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Department, there was the highest 44 mm of rain in Chuadanga in the last 24 hours till 6 am on Wednesday. During that time, 23 mm of rain was recorded in Kumarkhali, 21 mm in Faridpur, and 20 mm in Tentulia. At this time, 14 millimeters of rain fell in Dhaka.
