Dhaka north to resume Aedes mosquito control drives from tomorrow

The Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) is going to resume combing operations in every ward to protect the city dwellers from dengue fever.

The clean-up operations will start from tomorrow and continue for the next 10 days from 10am to 12:30pm, reads a press release issued by the city corporation.

The timing of the operations may change based on different areas or wards.

However, the drives will remain suspended on August 11 for Hindu religious festival Janmashtami, and on August 14 and 15 for the National Mourning Day.

Dhaka North Mayor Md Atiqul Islam sought cooperation from ward councillors, reserved seat councillors, media personnel and people from all walks of life of the city corporation to make the mosquito control efforts fruitful.

He also urged the city dwellers to check if water accumulates inside, outside or around the house or any installation, and throw it away immediately.

Atiqul asked the city residents to discard such water once every three days.

Pictures, addresses, mobile numbers and other necessary information about the houses or establishments where Aedes mosquito larvae or Aedes mosquito breeding grounds will be found will be stored in an app instantly during the operations.

This will create a database of the areas where Aedes mosquitoes breed. According to the database, the areas will be monitored later.

Besides the operations, mobile courts headed by regional executive officers and executive magistrates will also conduct drives to control Aedes mosquito in Dhaka north areas.

So far this year, Aedes larvae have been found in 2,686 buildings after conducting combing operations in 274,576.

During those drives, a total of Tk4,812,510 has been imposed as fines.
