Dhaka south evicts 30 establishments in Motijheel-Basabo
A local office of a labour organization was demolished during the drive
Dhaka South City Corporation evicted a total of 30 structures on Tuesday - including three permanent establishments in Motijheel and Basabo areas - from the proposed site of Dhaka south's primary waste management center.
Mohammad Muniruzzaman, property officer and executive magistrate of Dhaka, led an eviction drive at the construction site of the proposed primary waste management center next to the Motijheel Meghna Pump.
A local office of a labour organization was demolished during the drive, said a press release.
Mohammad Muniruzzaman's team later evicted 28 temporary illegal installations, including a permanent one, from the vacant site at Basabo-Kadamtala Wasa road.
The recovered land was later handed over to the jurisdiction of the city corporation's engineering department.
Magistrate Mohammad Moniruzzaman filed five cases under sub-section 7 of section 92 of the City Corporation Act, 2009; and collected a total fine of Tk19,000.
Magistrate Moniruzzaman said, "28 illegal installations were evicted; in addition, two permanent installations were removed from the proposed site, adjacent to the Motijheel Meghna Pump, and one permanent installation was removed from the Basabo-Kadamtala area."
