Dr Manzoor urges universities not to consider HSC result in admission
"The competition for admission will increase at the reputed public and private universities"
Professor Emeritus of Brac University Dr Manzoor Ahmed said the country's higher educational institutions should emphasise admission test scores and viva voce instead of SSC and HSC results to enrol the new students for the honours courses under 2020-21 session.
"The universities should scrap the numbers on SSC and HSC results in the admission test this year to find out the meritorious students for the enrollment," he said.
He also noted that quality education will be hampered if unqualified students get the chance to get admission at good institutions based on SSC and HSC results.
He made the comment while talking with The Business Standard after HSC and equivalent examinations results publication. This year country saw the highest number of GPA-5 which is three times more than that of the last year.
"The competition for admission will increase at the reputed public and private universities as all the GPA-5 holders will apply for their admission," he said.
This year, a total of 1,61,807 students have achieved maximum grade point average GPA-5 in HSC-2020 and its equivalent examinations, which is triple than previous year, without examination.
The rate of GPA-5 has risen to 11.83 percent this time from 3.54 percent in the previous year's result.
A total of 47,286 students had achieved GPA-5 in 2019.
