Drone crash during Akheri Munajat creates mass panic among devotees
At least 50 people sustained minor injuries as the devotees rushed to leave the area
At least 50 devotees participating in the first phase of Bishwa Ijtema were injured when they tried to leave the area in a rush after a drone crashed on the road near Kamarpara in the capital during the Akheri Munajat and created mass panic this morning (2 February).
The drone crashed down with heavy sound on the Tongi-Kaliganj Road on the east side of the flyover at Tongi Station Road area at around 9:31am, confirmed Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tongi East police station.
"The drone fell on the road near Kamarpara after its battery died. This created panic among the devotees, as most of them came from rural areas and knew nothing about drones. Some of them have been injured. The matter is being investigated," Faridul said.
The injuries happened as the devotees panicked and started to rush. The injured received treatment at Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital in Tongi, police said.
Mostafizur Rahman, the in-charge of the hospital's emergency department, said they have treated at least 50 devotees who came from the Ijtema ground to the hospital with injuries.
According to locals, the drone fell off after hitting a bamboo pole while the devotees were engaged in the Akheri Munajat.
